Matrix Messenger Element

| DE

During the Chemnitz Linux Days this weekend, I once again became aware of the messenger Matrix during Benedict’s presentation.

I had tested it two years ago - but unfortunately, as is so often the case, I soon lost sight of it again due to a lack of contacts. The app is now no longer called Riot but Element, and on paper it actually offers exactly what I had always wanted:

  • End-to-end encryption (like WhatsApp, Signal and Threema),
  • does not require an email address to log in (like Threema),
  • can be used on multiple devices (like Telegram)
  • and is completely open-source (like Signal)

That sounds like an all-round carefree package. 🥳

So I’ll try to put my feelers out again over the next few days to find a few test contacts. Maybe this could be my new messenger.
